Heat and Fire Weather Concerns in the West; Excessive Rainfall Possible in the South-Central U.S.

Heat will build over the Intermountain West and the Southwest the next couple of days. Lightning from dry thunderstorms can create new fire starts and combined with gusty winds may cause a fire to rapidly grow in Oregon and northern California. Light lake effect snows fell over the area Thursday night with parts of Berrien, Cass, and Saint Joseph Counties in Michigan receiving a few inches through 8 AM Friday, December 5th.  Heavier snow fell just to the north in Van Buren and Allegan Counties where over 4 and 8 inches of snow were reported respectively.  Below is a map and list of Thursday night's snow totals:
