Heat and Fire Weather Concerns in the West; Excessive Rainfall Possible in the South-Central U.S.

Heat will build over the Intermountain West and the Southwest the next couple of days. Lightning from dry thunderstorms can create new fire starts and combined with gusty winds may cause a fire to rapidly grow in Oregon and northern California. A surface trough passed through the area on Friday, bringing much of the region a dusting to up to an inch of snow in the morning.  Behind the trough, northwest winds allowed lake effect snows to set up with an intense single band dropping from 3 to nearly 6 inches of snow over parts of Berrien and Cass Counties in Michigan in just over 8 hours.  The map below shows snow totals from yesterday with a list of the snowfall reports attached.
