Late Summer Heat Yields Warmest Day of the Year

A ridge of high pressure across the central and eastern United States brought a blast of late summer heat to the northern Indiana, southwest lower Michigan and northwest Ohio areas. This brought a return to temperatures in 90s.

 

During the peak of the heat on September 10th, many locations recorded their highest temperature of the year. Below is a list (and map) of the recorded high temperatures on September 10th.

Fort Wayne and South Bend recorded their highest temperature of 2013 on September 10th. Below is a chart of the years when the highest temperature of the year occurred in September.

2013 had the 4th latest warmest day of the year at Fort Wayne and T-3rd latest warmest day of the year at South Bend. September 10th was the warmest September day at Fort Wayne since September 3rd, 2011 and the warmest September day at South Bend since September 6th, 1954. Check out more info in the graphic below.

Along with the record heat during the day, warm nights yielded record warm low temperatures. The low on September 10th at South Bend was 74F. This broke the daily record warm low temperature of 72F set in 1983. This also ranked as T-3rd warmest September low temperature on record. The low at Fort Wayne was 73F, which tied the daily record warm low temperature set in 1947. This also ranked as the T-6th warmest September low temperature on record.
