Dangerous Heat in the West; Wildfire Smoke Impacting the North-Central U.S.

In much of California and parts of the West, dangerous heat will remain in place through Saturday, with record-breaking temperatures expected. Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings have been issued. Smoke from Canadian wildfires will bring air quality issues to parts of the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes into the weekend. Overview

A line of showers and thunderstorms raced across the forecast area during the afternoon and early evening hours on August 29th, 2022. Numerous reports of wind damage were received as the main line of thunderstorms tracked from west to east across the area between 2 PM EDT and 6 PM EDT.  Severe reports were received of downed trees, along with some instances of trees downed onto cars or houses.  Additional storms redeveloped on the evening of August 29th, but these storms were mainly sub-severe in nature.  We would like to thank everyone who submitted reports and pictures for this event!
