Heat Wave Expands to the East Coast; Flash Flooding Likely in the Central Plains into the Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northeast

Dangerous, prolonged heat is ongoing in the Mid-South to Mid-Mississippi Valley and heat expands into the Northeast for a brief period today. Widely scattered instances of flash flooding due to heavy rains are forecast from northeast Kansas to much of Indiana. Severe Weather Event of December 16, 2019

 

A strong upper level disturbance and surface low produced several severe thunderstorms across Southwest Mississippi and portions of Southeast Louisiana to the north of I-12 during the afternoon hours of Monday December 16, 2019. There were two tornadoes reported with these severe thunderstorms as they moved across the area. The most significant tornado impacted Amite County, Mississippi.

2 tornadoes have been confirmed from this event. These tornadoes have been determined to range in strength from EF1 to EF3 after NWS storm surveys were conducted.
