Heavy Rainfall Across the Southwest, Mid-Atlantic and Florida; Fire Weather Concerns in the Northwest and Alaska

Heavy to excessive rainfall may bring flooding to parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia today. Recently burned areas will be particularly vulnerable to flash flooding. Severe Weather Event of December 16, 2019

 

A strong upper level disturbance and surface low produced several severe thunderstorms across Southwest Mississippi and portions of Southeast Louisiana to the north of I-12 during the afternoon hours of Monday December 16, 2019. There were two tornadoes reported with these severe thunderstorms as they moved across the area. The most significant tornado impacted Amite County, Mississippi.

2 tornadoes have been confirmed from this event. These tornadoes have been determined to range in strength from EF1 to EF3 after NWS storm surveys were conducted.
