Coastal Threats for the East and Gulf; Record Warmth for the Central U.S.

Persistent onshore flow across the Southeast and portions of the mid-Atlantic will keep the risk of rip currents through the weekend. Rainfall could be locally heavy across Florida, especially along the eastern shoreline. Meanwhile, record warmth for portions of the Plains and Midwest with elevated fire concerns. Severe Weather Event of December 16, 2019

 

A strong upper level disturbance and surface low produced several severe thunderstorms across Southwest Mississippi and portions of Southeast Louisiana to the north of I-12 during the afternoon hours of Monday December 16, 2019. There were two tornadoes reported with these severe thunderstorms as they moved across the area. The most significant tornado impacted Amite County, Mississippi.

2 tornadoes have been confirmed from this event. These tornadoes have been determined to range in strength from EF1 to EF3 after NWS storm surveys were conducted.
