National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

During the week of June 9th, the North Central River Forecast Center (NCRFC) will be undertaking a required, scheduled upgrade to our AWIPS (Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System) computer system. The upgrade process requires our onsite AWIPS to be completely offline. During this time we will run our operations through the national hydrologic backup AWIPS system hosted at the National Water Center (NWC) in Tuscaloosa, AL. The backup AWIPS system does not have all the same capabilities as our normal system; therefore, we will not be able to send some products from June 9-13, 2025.

Products we will continue to send during this time include:

  • All RFC Deterministic Forecasts (RVF) that get posted to water.noaa.gov

  • Gridded precipitation analysis grids that get sent to NCEP and are viewable at water.noaa.gov.

  • All Flash Flood Guidance Products (FFG and FFH)

Products that will not be available:

  • Ensemble and Probabilistic Services (ESP and HEFS data) and associated graphics at water.noaa.gov

  • NCRFC Website Precipitation Graphics:  this includes Observed and Forecast Precipitation Maps

  • NCRFC Website soil temperature and water temperature graphics

  • Ensemble Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) Hydrograph graphics for Emergency Managers

  • Experimental Environmental Runoff Risk products

Data for the above services will begin to populate once our AWIPS system restoration is complete.
