Fall 2025 Climate Summary:

Temperatures averaged above normal by 2 to 3 degrees. Each of the 3 months were above normal, with October experiencing a slightly greater departure (2 to 4 degrees) compared to the other 2 months. It was the 8th warmest Fall season on record in Paducah and tied for the 7th warmest in Cape Girardeau.

Precipitation was drier than normal across a large chunk of the region, with the most notable areas across the Ozark Foothills of Missouri and along and north of the I-64 corridor in southern Illinois. Deficits were in the 2 to 5” range in these areas. Severe to extreme drought expanded across the region in September before improvement occurred during the latter half of the month and into October. Parts of the Ozark Foothills and up along the I-64 corridor in southern Illinois remained in drought at the end of November, since these areas missed out on the heavier rains through the fall season. The main corridor that finished wetter than normal was across northwest Kentucky and far southwest Indiana, closest to the Ohio River. This included the Evansville, Henderson, and Owensboro areas which largely finished 2 to 5” wetter than normal. October was the wettest month compared to normal while November was the driest, at least across much of the region. The highest observed amount in our forecast area was 16.87” at a CoCoRaHS station in Daviess County, Kentucky (Owensboro 4.4 ESE).
