Severe Weather - May 25th, 2004

National Weather Service, Springfield, MO

Event Summary

A strong thunderstorm developed over southeast Camden county Tuesday afternoon as a slow moving cold front dropped southward through the area. The thunderstorm quickly intensified and began to show signs of strong midlevel rotation...which meant it had developed into a supercell thunderstorm.

As the storm moved into the Richland area, in Pulaski county, it produced hail up to the size of baseballs and winds approaching 80 mph. The thunderstorm continued moving eastward across central Pulaski and into southern Phelps and far northern Dent counties...producing large hail and damaging winds as it did so. Numerous trees were uprooted over southern Phelps and northern Dent counties.
