Winter Weather Brings Dangerous Travel Conditions Across the Northern U.S.

Heavy lake effect snow will persist downwind of the Great Lakes through early Saturday. Snow squalls with heavy snow and gusty winds will create dangerous travel in the Interior Northeast due to low visibility and slippery roads. A National Weather Service storm survey confirmed a weak tornado touched down near the town of Cabool in southwestern Texas County early Thursday evening. The tornado was rated an EF-0, with an estimated wind speed around 65 mph. The tornado touched down about 3 miles south-southwest of Cabool at 630 PM on September 11, 2008. The tornado moved along an intermittent path toward the northeast for approximately a tenth of a mile with a maximum path width of 50 yards.
