Tornadoes and Severe Storms - November 24th, 2010

National Weather Service, Springfield, MO

Event Summary

...Tornadoes Rip Through the Ozarks Wednesday Night...

A powerful cold front swept through the Missouri Ozarks and southeast Kansas during the evening and overnight hours of November 24th, 2010.  Warm and moist air pushed into the region behind a warm front earlier in the day and brought temperatures into the mid 70s over parts of the region with dewpoints in the mid 60s.  Strong wind shear was in place over the region ahead of the advancing storm system.

As the storm system moved into the area, strong to severe thunderstorms developed, many of which became supercellular along and near the warm frontal boundary.  Three tornadoes were verified from this event by a storm survey team.  2 EF1 tornadoes and an EF0 tornado occurred.

In addition the the tornadoes, large hail was reported along with many reports of flash flooding as storms continued to train along the same path during the evening.
