Watching Hurricane Erin; Heavy Rainfall Threat for Upper Midwest; Heatrisk for Mississippi Valley

Hurricane Erin continues to track westward with its outer bands bringing heavy rainfall and gusty winds for Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. Life-threatening surf and rip currents are occurring and will spread across the Atlantic coasts this week. A Flood Watch is in effect through Monday for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Additional rainfall amounts 2 to 4 inches, with isolated amounts of 6 inches. Heavy rainfall may cause flooding of low-lying areas, rivers, creeks, and roads. Residents and visitors are urged to turn around, don’t drown, and avoid driving or walking through flooded areas.
...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON... ...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM AST MONDAY... Large breaking waves of 7–13 feet will produce life-threatening rip currents, along northwest, north and east-facing beaches of Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, and U.S. Virgin Islands. As a result, High Surf Advisories remain in effect through 6 AM on Monday and a High Rip Current Risk through 6 PM on Monday. Small Craft Advisories remain in effect across the offshore Caribbean waters, Anegada Passage, and eastern waters of Puerto Rico through Monday morning and across the Atlantic Waters, northwestern coastal waters of Puerto Rico and the Mona Passage through Monday afternoon.
