Significant Severe Weather, Dangerous Heat and Extremely Critical Fire Weather Conditions Across the Southern U.S.

Tornadoes (some strong), extreme hail, and widespread wind damage are forecast over parts of the central and southern Plains Saturday afternoon through Saturday night. A Moderate Risk (level 4 of 5) for severe storms has been issued. Strong winds and low relative humidity will contribute to extremely critical fire weather Saturday in the Southwest. Today, an extensive area of cloudiness and instability will approach our region from the west. Conditions will remain wet and unstable, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly developing in the interior and northern half of Puerto Rico during the afternoon. Some showers over the waters could move near the smaller islands as well. However, coastal and urban areas with low cloud cover could experience heat indices greater than 100 degrees. Stay tuned!
Life threatening rip currents are possible, especially across eastern St. Croix.
[May 24] A trough of low pressure is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms a few hundred miles to the northeast of the central Bahamas. An area of low pressure is expected to form within this system roughly halfway between Bermuda and Hispaniola later today. Although environmental conditions are not conducive, some slight subtropical or tropical development is possible over the next couple of days while the system moves northeastward.
