Light snow accumulations are expected in parts of southwest Virginia and the East TN mountains today through Thursday morning, mainly for elevations at or above 2500 ft. 1 to 3 inches are possible, with higher amounts on the highest mountain peaks.
Winds will increase with time today, first beginning in the mountains and then translating to the lower elevations. Gusts will persist into the overnight hours across the higher terrain before dropping off later Thursday. A Wind Advisory is in effect for gusts up to 45 mph.
Dry to start today with warmer temperatures. A cold front approaching later today will bring increasing winds and gusts across the valley and higher elevations during the day. Snowfall expected behind the front's passing for the Southern Appalachians and southwest Virginia.
