Heading outdoors for Memorial Day Weekend? 🏕️🚤 We're looking at a split-weather setup for north central Idaho and western Montana. Saturday and Sunday will be warm and dry with overall great weather to get outside! But we need to stress that our rivers and lakes are running extremely COLD and FAST right now. Cold water shock is a deadly hazard, and absolutely no one is immune to it. Please, wear your life jacket if you are anywhere near the water! 🦺 By Monday afternoon, the pattern shifts. We are tracking an increased threat for scattered thunderstorms. If you are wrapping up a camping trip, hiking, or grilling out, keep an eye on the sky. Be prepared to seek shelter from lightning and sudden, gusty outflow winds over 40 mph. Have a safe holiday weekend!
A prolonged period of unsettled weather will impact the Northern Rockies starting Tuesday, May 26, and continuing through Friday, May 29. Periods of widespread rain (amounts greater than 0.25") are most likely from Monday night into Tuesday night, with a 50-70% chance of occurrence. As the week progresses, the threat of scattered thunderstorms will increase from Wednesday onward. Primary storm threats include heavy rain, lightning, and minor flooding in areas with poor drainage.
