A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Friday night through Sunday, for all of West Central Texas. Significant accumulations of freezing rain, sleet, and snow are expected, with the event beginning Friday night. In addition to the wintry mix of precipitation, very cold temperatures will affect the area over the weekend.
Precipitation should start off as rain on Friday, becoming freezing rain and sleet late Friday night through Saturday, then transition to snow and sleet Saturday night.
Snow and sleet totals will most likely stay below 3 inches this weekend. There is a low (10 percent) chance that snow totals could reach 4 inches in northern portions of the Big Country. Higher end snow and sleet accumulations will result in very hazardous travel conditions.
Ice totals from freezing rain will most likely be between 0.3 inches and 0.5 inches. There is a low (10 percent) chance that ice totals could reach nearly 0.75 inches. Hazardous travel conditions are expected this weekend.
An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for this weekend. In addition to chances for accumulating snow and ice, temperatures will be in the teens and single digits. Wind chills early Sunday morning and Monday morning will be below zero.
An arctic air mass will move into the region this weekend with a high chance for a wintry mix of sleet, snow, and freezing rain.
