Strong to potentially severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts are forecast Thursday from parts of New England into the Mid Atlantic and Carolinas. Significant heat will expand across the West and Central Plains through Friday, potentially breaking daily high temperature records. A wind rose is a diagram that depicts the distribution of wind direction and speed at a location over a period of time. The length of each bar represents the percent of time the wind blows from that direction. Each bar is subdivided with colors to show wind speed ranges associated with each direction. A wind rose can quickly indicate the dominant wind directions and the direction of the strongest wind speeds. Wind rose plots are created by the Iowa Environmental Mesonet.
