The National Weather Service in Amarillo has completed a damage assessment from the first known December tornado to occur in the Amarillo forecast area that occurred December 14. The tornado first touched down three miles northeast of Washburn in Carson County at 4:17 p.m. CST. The tornado was on the ground for three miles with a maximum width of 200 yards. The tornado dissipated at 4:22 p.m. CST six miles northeast of Washburn. There were no injuries or fatalities with this tornado. This is a preliminary report and is subject to revision based on any new or additional information.

Clarendon, TX Survey

The second tornado touched down five miles south southeast of Clarendon in Donley County at 4:53 p.m. CST. The tornado was on the ground for less than one mile with a maximum width of 50 yards. The tornado dissipated at 4:53 p.m. CST, five miles southeast of Clarendon. There was considerable damage to a metal barn, overhead doors were blown, and part of the roof was blown off. In addition, a small shed was destroyed, en empty diesel tank was blown off the stand, and shingles on the roof of a nearby house were blown off. There were no injuries or fatalities with this tornado. This is a preliminary report and is subject to revision based on any new or additional information.

Lelia Lake, TX Survey

The third tornado touched down one mile northwest of Lelia Lake in Donley County at 4:58 p.m. CST. The tornado was on the ground for less than one half mile with a maximum width of 50 yards. The tornado dissipated at 4:59 p.m. CST, one mile north northwest of Lelia Lake. There was significant tree damage with large limbs down. Irrigation pipe supply line was also blown out of position. There were no injuries or fatalities with this tornado. The National Weather Service in Amarillo would like to thank the landowners that assisted with this survey.
