A storm tracking across the southern U.S. will continue to bring areas of heavy thunderstorms with risks for severe weather and excessive rainfall from Texas to Florida through this weekend. April Climate: Hot with Dry Conditions Holding
Much cooler temperatures are anticipated to arrive in the Panhandles tonight, leading to a very chilly start to Saturday morning. Currently, morning low temperatures are expected to range from the mid-30s to the low-40s, with a few spots approaching the freezing mark. However, even colder temperatures are still possible, with some areas potentially dropping well below freezing. Take precautions to protect sensitive plants tonight and be sure to bundle up if heading out early tomorrow.

Warm and dry conditions for the next few days, and we may even have some elevated Fire Weather return Sunday and Monday. Cold front on Tuesday will lead to increased precipitation chances on Tuesday and Wednesday. Overall the better chances will be to the north. While the overall probabilities favor rain showers, will not rule out isolated thunderstorms embedded.

April continued the trend of hot and dry conditions across the Panhandles this year. All of our climate sites reported average temperatures 4 to 5 degrees above normal, placing all four sites among the top five hottest Aprils ever recorded. While Dalhart and Guymon received some precipitation, rainfall was nearly non-existent in Amarillo and Borger. Still, all four sites were well under our normal for the month with both Amarillo and Borger well more than an inch under the normal.
