A marginal (level 1 of 5) severe weather threat is in play for locations west of IH-69C/US 281, from western Brooks and Hidalgo through Zapata County. Primary hazards are large hail (1" to golf ball size) and gusty winds that could reach 60 mph. Wind-driven hail is possible, which can cause damage to unprotected windows.

Beneficial rainfall is coming to the Rio Grande Valley! Unfortunately, the rain may come as downpours that could cause local flash flooding in hillier terrain of Starr and Zapata County, with high rainfall rates elsewhere west of IH-69C/US 281 (Brooks/Hidalgo/Jim Hogg). Elsewhere, periods of moderate rain from late Saturday night through Easter Sunday may gradually add up to 1.25 to 1.75" - the kind of rain that can finally start gardens growing and grass to turn green.

Make sure you have weather alerts turned on, move to higher ground if you receive an alert, and turn around don't drown if you happen to encounter a flooded roadway

Hope you haven't stowed your cool-weather clothes just yet! Easter Sunday brings a change from much above average, sultry late-spring-like weather to conditions more like a typical post-front in November or February. Temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s Saturday afternoon could drop as low as the mid to upper 50s Sunday afternoon. The combination of rain and chilly breezes will make indoor Easter Sunday activities a best bet.

A MODERATE RISK of rip currents in the surf zone will be the main concern as you enjoy the Easter weekend.

The passage of a cold front will produce cooler and rainy weather for the weekend and the start of the new work week, with drier and warmer conditions afterwards.
