There remains a Moderate (Level 2 of 4) with pockets of Major (Level 3 of 4) Risk of heat-related illness across Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley today. Be sure to drink plenty of water if spending time outdoors.
A Fire Danger Statement is in effect this afternoon and early evening for all of Deep South Texas, excepting the coastal counties and islands. Southeasterly winds between 15 and 25 mph are expected, with gusts up to 35. Humidity could get as low as 15%, especially in the Western Ranchlands. Avoid outdoor burning and properly discard cigarettes.
We are monitoring an area of low pressure over the eastern Gulf with a 60 percent chance of development through the next 7 days. At this time, this system is not expected to have any direct impacts to Deep South Texas.
Hot and breezy at local beaches today with a MODERATE RISK of rip currents in the surf zone.
