Well above normal temperatures are forecast to shift from the northern Plains through the Northeast U.S. over the long holiday weekend. A few strong to severe thunderstorm will be possible as well along with a potential for excessive rainfall. On this date in 1899...the low of 26 degrees below zero established the all time low for Dodge City, Kansas.

It was the coldest morning ever in the eastern Great Plains and eastern Texas. Kansas City, Missouri, bottomed out at 22 below zero. Fort Worth, Texas dropped to 8 below zero. Camp Clark, Nebraska recorded 47 degrees below zero.
