Areas of Dangerous Heat and Heavy Rain with Possible Flooding This Week

Hot temperatures and high humidity are forecast to continue across much of northeast Texas into the mid-Mississippi Valley through this week. As a strong low pressure system moves east across the mid-Mississippi Valley today, a threat of severe weather exists from central parts of Illinois and Indiana, southward to the Gulf Coast.

Timing

Main threat will be during the afternoon hours
Threat lingers until near sunset near the Indiana border

Locations Impacted

Highest chances of severe weather: Charleston, Mattoon, Effingham, Flora, Olney, Lawrenceville.
Severe storms also possible around Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, Danville.

What is Expected

Main threats: Damaging winds in excess of 60 mph and hail at least the size of quarters.
Risk of tornadoes, mainly along and south of I-70.
There is some uncertainty in the extent of severe weather, due to the overnight thunderstorms across the region. Be sure to monitor the latest forecasts through the day.
