

July 2022 Precipitation Highlights:
- Heavy rain was observed during July from west central into southeast Illinois, ranging to amounts in excess of 10 inches around Olney. This was over twice the normal for July.
- Meanwhile, dry conditions broadly around the I-74 corridor, including Peoria, Danville, and most notably Champaign, contributed to worsening drought conditions. Amounts there were typically 2 to 3 inches, considerably less than normals around 4 inches.
- July 1: heavy rain in southeast IL of 2 to 3.5 inches
- July 6-8: Widespread rainfall as high as 4 to 6 inches from Rushville to Springfield to Shelbyville.
- July 25-26: Extreme rainfall from northern Missouri through St. Louis into the Ohio River Valley, as high as 9 to 11 inches, missed central Illinois by only a 100 miles. Areas from Jacksonville to Shelbyville to Robinson received around an inch.

July 2022 Temperature Highlights:
- July average temperatures in the mid 70s were generally close to normal.
- Significant heat waves affected central Illinois July 4 through 6, and July 19 to 23. Some high temperatures well into the 90s were recorded in these periods, with some record warm low temperature records established July 5.

August 2022 Look Ahead:
- The official August 2022 outlooks from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center show above normal temperatures are favored across the entire Midwest, including all of Illinois. Below normal precipitation is also favored across the entire state of Illinois.
- Normal conditions for August in central Illinois include high temperatures in the mid 80s, low temperatures in the low 60s, and around 3.5 inches of precipitation.
