Heavy Rain in the Mid-Atlantic; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northern Plains; Critical Fire in the West

Locally heavy rain and flash flooding will be possible today into tonight near the Mid-Atlantic/Carolina coast. Storms with large hail and severe wind gusts are expected across parts of the central and northern Plains into the upper Mississippi Valley. October Precipitation Highlights:

October was drier than normal across the region, with areas north of I-70 around an inch below normal and areas south of I-70 two to three inches below normal.

October Temperature Highlights:

Temperatures averaged near to slightly below normal during the first half of the month, but a cold snap and hard freeze occurred from the 17th to the 19th.
Temperatures warmed to above normal on the 21st and 22nd, with highs soring into the 80s at many sites, but it was short lived and temperatures quickly returned to near normal where they stayed for the remainder of the month.
