Tornado - 3.4 N Noble, IL RICHLAND COUNTY Date 11/05/2017 Time (Local) 5:24-5:33 pm CST EF Rating EF-1 Est. Peak Winds 105 mph Path Length 6.9 miles Max Width 50 yards Injuries/Deaths 0 / 0 Summary: A tornado touched down in an open field about 3.4 mile north of Noble at 5:24 pm CST. The tornado tracked to the east-northeast and damaged the roof of a house, destroyed a garage, damaged a truck in the garage, and downed several trees. The tornado continued to the east-northeast damaging several trees, before doing damage to barn roof off of Pleasant Ridge Lane around 5:26 pm. The tornado continued to the east-northeast for another 7 minutes primarily damaging trees. The tornado dissipated around 5:33 pm CST, about 3.2 miles north-northwest of Olney about one-half mile northwest of the Richland Country Club.  Track Map Downloadable KMZ File

The Doppler radar north of Evansville was able to pick up on the circulation from this tornado. These images each have 4 radar products displayed:

• Top left:  Reflectivity (the standard image you're used to seeing on TV and the Internet)
• Top right:  Storm Relative Motion (SRM). This is from the Doppler part of the radar. SRM shows the wind movement; green represents wind moving toward the radar, and red shows it moving away; the movement of the storm itself is incorporated as well. 
• Lower left:  Differential Reflectivity (ZDR). The ZDR compares the horizontal and vertical parts of the radar beam, and is used to help determine locations with hail.
• Lower right:  Correlation Coefficient (CC).  The CC product helps distinguish from echoes caused by precipitation, and those by non-weather targets such as insects, debris, etc. 

The first image was from 1 minute before the tornado touched down. In the top right quadrant, the circulation is starting to take shape north of Noble, evidenced by the red and green next to each other. This shows up more substantially at 5:27 pm, after it has caused the damage to the initial house and garage. At this point, there is some indication of the tornado in the CC display starting to show up in the lower right quadrant (the greenish area northeast of Noble). This suggests some non-meteorological echoes mixed in. The strongest circulation is shown in the image at 5:31 pm, but is quickly fading at 5:36 pm. However, the CC continues to show some debris present (green and blue area aligned with the circulation).
