Severe Thunderstorms in the Southern Plains; Heavy to Excessive Rainfall in South Central Texas

Widespread rain may produce flash flooding across the Southern Plains into the Ozarks today. Numerous instances of flash flooding are expected in south-central Texas, including the Hill Country. The Automated Surface Observing System that serves the Coles County Airport near Mattoon (station KMTO) will be impacted by airport maintenance being conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration. During this time, only the altimeter (barometric pressure) will be available to users. The outage is expected to last through at least August 6th.
