Despite warming inland temperatures, northwest California rivers remain cold and swift. This time of year, snowmelt keeps currents strong and water temperatures in the 50s which is too cold for swimming. You can be swept into a deadly situation whether swimming, tubing, and even wading. Stay safe by staying out of the water this spring.
The consistent high pressure over NW CA will give way to increased chances of rainfall next week. Exact rainfall amounts are still varying, yet models have consistently shown Wednesday as the wettest day for next week. Cold temperatures will accompany the rain as well. Next weekend, expected a return of drier and warmer conditions. Remember to drive safely on freshly wet roads and be aware for potential rockfalls near terrain features.
Major cooling is forecast mid to late week (Wednesday through Friday), especially in the interior. Be prepared for much colder conditions.
The cold front is expected to bring gusty south winds ahead of it on Tuesday night and Wednesday. If you location isn't listed visit weather.gov and search for it (you may need to click on the hourly forecast) and you will get the same information.
