Winter Weather Preparedness & Spotter Training Sessions

Winter Weather Preparedness & Spotter Training Sessions

As we get ready for the 2026-2027 winter season, NWS Green Bay and surrounding offices are hosting five virtual winter weather preparedness and spotter training sessions. Registration is required and the session is free and open to everyone. No in person winter classes will be held this year.

The training sessions will be about 1.5-2 hours each on topics including:

A review of the 2025-2026 winter weather season
A look at winter weather climatology
Examination of winter weather meteorology
NWS winter forecast products and safety
Review of guidelines & reporting procedure for measuring snow and ice
Plenty of opportunities for questions from the audience

This is a great activity for anyone interested in winter weather regardless of age and experience level! Information will be generalized for most locations in the Plains and Midwest (no mountain winter weather will be discussed).
