A "tale of two forecasts" is setting up for western Montana and north-central Idaho this weekend into early next week! 🏔️ vs. 🏘️ High pressure is building over the region, which will lead to valley inversions. This means your weather will depend heavily on your elevation. IN THE VALLEYS: ☁️ Expect periods of fog and low clouds (stratus) to develop. This "inversion trap" will keep valley locations like Missoula, Kalispell, and Orofino much cooler. IN THE MOUNTAINS: ☀️ You'll find the opposite! Expect above-normal temperatures. If you're heading over mountain passes like Lolo, Lookout, or Marias, you can anticipate good visibility and periods of sun. Travel Impacts: The main hazard will be in the valleys, especially during the early morning hours. Be prepared for periods of low visibility and potentially slick roads from the fog. Air quality may also degrade with time.
