A weak cold front will be moving through the Northern Rockies today bringing light snow to Lolo, Lookout and Marias passes. While the valleys, especially northwest Montana, will experience rain as snow levels will lower to around 4000 feet by Monday morning. Subsurface temperatures are still below freezing for stretches of Highway 2 between Happy's Inn to Marion and West Glacier to Marias, Highway 93 from Whitefish to Eureka and portions of Highway 83 potentially causing ice formation by Monday morning commute.
A few weak waves inhibit high pressure until February 1st or 2nd, then high pressure builds through at least the 8th. This stable pattern will slowly lead to valley inversions, resulting in fog, low clouds, and potential air quality issues. There is also a possibility that daytime high temperature records could be broken.
