Arctic Air Mass Lingers for Areas of the East; Critical Fire Weather for the Plains; Active Weather Pattern for Hawaii

Arctic air lingers for the east, however, winds will slowly subside and a slow moderating trend starts during the week. Moisture continues to provide rainfall and higher elevation snow for the Pacific Northwest, northern California and northern Rockies through Monday. Overview

During the evening of August 16th, a line of showers and thunderstorms lifted north through southern Minnesota with rotation in some of the stronger embedded cells. Multiple tornadoes occurred during the evening hours. In addition, a prolonged period of moderate to heavy rain produced up to 9 inches of rain in southwestern Minnesota.
