Snow Continues in the Great Lakes; Above Normal Temperatures in the West

Lake effect snow will continue into the weekend as two more quick moving systems will bring widespread snow to the Upper Great Lakes. *Online Skywarn Training: Similar to last year we will provide online, free classes that will last around 1 hour. These classes are not as in depth as the other classes, so this functions as more of a refresher and basic training. Dates/times for the online classes will be announced soon.

*Twin Cities Metro classes:  Click here Metro Skywarn for all Skywarn Spotter classes in the metro, then click on the tab in the upper right part of their page.  Their classes are taught by Metro Skywarn instructors, who are non-NWS meteorologists, long time storm chasers or spotters, and have been trained by the National Weather Service in Chanhassen to present Skywarn training.  They offer many classes around the Twin Cities metro area from late February to mid May, and classes are three to four hours long.  A schedule of their classes is available on their web site (click on classes in the upper right part of the page).

* Non-Metro Classes (see list below):  Skywarn training classes listed below are all free, and last around 2 1/2 hours. Pre-registration for these classes is required only if specifically stated. Additional classes will be added if local officials request a class in their area. We will be following any facility protocol for mask guidelines. There will be an option for taking an online virtual training session, but the dates of those classes have not yet been determined. More information about our Skywarn program is available on the NWS Twin Cities Skywarn page.
