Valley Rain/Mountain Snow Late Saturday-Monday

Valley Frost Tuesday Morning

A significant weather shift is arriving in Western Montana and North-Central Idaho Saturday evening through Monday morning, September 12-14, bringing widespread rain chances to the valleys and snow to the high terrain. Snow accumulations are possible above 6,500 feet, particularly on Sunday. Anyone heading into the backcountry should prepare for a legitimate hypothermia risk due to the sudden onset of cold, wet, and raw conditions. High temperatures will take a hit, dropping 15 to 20 degrees below normal by Sunday. Also, expect morning fog and low clouds to start your days.

Chilly morning temperatures will arrive across the region on Tuesday, September 15. Low temperatures are expected to drop into the low to mid-30s, bringing scattered to widespread frost. Areas most at risk include western Montana (primarily south of I-90) and higher-elevation valleys of north-central Idaho, with more widespread frost likely in sheltered locations and along the Continental Divide. Consider covering or bringing sensitive vegetation indoors Monday night.
