Monitoring Tsunami Impacts Across the Pacific; Air Quality Concerns; Dangerous Heat; Critical Fire Weather for the West

Tsunami impacts continue for portions of the Pacific basin. Wildfire smoke causes unhealthy air in Midwest to Great Lakes. Heat dome spans Mississippi Valley to Mid-Atlantic with excessive heat warnings and advisories. Critical fire weather in Great Basin to Pacific Northwest (dry thunderstorms). Overview

A disturbance moving across the region resulted in thunderstorms developing during the afternoon hours.The main impact associated with these storms was flash flooding. Several locations picked up torrential rainfall amounts over a short time period. Over 4 inches of rain occurred in Union County, Illinois and Pike County, Indiana. Water rescues were needed in Union County and unfortunately 1 fatality occurred there due to the flash flooding. Damaging winds up around 60 mph occurred with several of the storms as well.
