Heat Wave Expands to the East Coast; Flash Flooding Likely in the Central Plains into the Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northeast

Dangerous, prolonged heat is ongoing in the Mid-South to Mid-Mississippi Valley and heat expands into the Northeast for a brief period today. Widely scattered instances of flash flooding due to heavy rains are forecast from northeast Kansas to much of Indiana. Overview

A complex of thunderstorms moved south across the region during the early morning of August 12th. The storms intensified from Mississippi County Missouri into the Jackson Purchase region of west Kentucky between 8 and 10 AM. Significant wind damage occurred across Fulton, Hickman and southern Graves counties in Kentucky. There were also 2 EF-1 tornadoes that occurred, with one of them in the city of Hickman. Flash flooding was also reported across portions of this area and extended into Murray, KY.
