Heat Wave Expands to the East Coast; Flash Flooding Likely in the Central Plains into the Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northeast

Dangerous, prolonged heat is ongoing in the Mid-South to Mid-Mississippi Valley and heat expands into the Northeast for a brief period today. Widely scattered instances of flash flooding due to heavy rains are forecast from northeast Kansas to much of Indiana. Overview

A strong cold front moved through the region, accompanied by a line of thunderstorms during the evening hours on December 5th and into the early morning on the 6th. Pockets of damaging winds and large hail accompanied the strongest storms. There were 5 tornadoes that touched down in portions of southern Illinois and western Kentucky. Two additional tornadoes in western KY will be posted. A tornado produced damage in the city of West Frankfort, IL.
