Overview and Graphics

November 2016 was generally warm and dry (until the last week) month across our region. Temperatures were generally 3 to 4 degrees above normal, good enough for the 8th warmest November on record in Paducah, KY. The first half of the month in particular was quite warm, with numerous record highs set. All-time November record highs were established in Evansville, IN and Cape Girardeau when the temperature soared to 86 and 84 degrees respectively on November 1st.  The diurnal temperature range was unusually large, with high temperatures some 4 to 6 degrees above normal, but lows only around 1 or 2 degrees above normal. This was largely due to our dry conditions, effectively turning our area into a mini desert-like climate. So as you guessed, all of our area finished November with below normal precipitation. It would have been a lot worse if we did not get the beneficial rainfall during the last week of the month.
