Severe Weather in the Plains; Heavy Rainfall in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys; Heat Wave in the Central U.S.

Numerous severe storms with a potential for severe wind gusts, tornadoes (some potentially strong), and very large hail are expected in parts of the central and northern Plains. Here are the observed snowfall totals from Wednesday February 24th. The accumulating snows were confined to parts of southeast MO and southern IL. Perryville, MO was the big winner picking up 7 inches! A swath of 1 to 3 inches was common from parts of Wayne County, MO northeast into the Carbondale and Mount Vernon, IL areas. Many areas that show a 0 on the map picked up a trace of snow from this system.

Most locations picked up between 1 to 2 inches of rain from this sytem. Parts of southeast MO and southern IL saw over 2 inches of precipitation (combined rain and snow). Here are a few of the precipitation totals across the area for the 48 hour period ending at 8pm on February 24th:
