National Weather Service, Springfield, MO

Scattered supercell thunderstorms developed out ahead of a cold front that pushed into the region Thursday afternoon. Multiple reports of large hail were received, with two reports of ping pong ball size hail in Morgan County. A few of the storms also exhibited strong rotation which prompted the issuance of Tornado Warnings. The storms then congealed into a broken line later in the evening with a few more reports of severe hail. Non-thunderstorm wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph occurred on Thursday ahead of the storms, with a gust of 53 mph measured at the JLN airport.
