Above Normal Temperatures, Strong Thunderstorms, Tropical Development Being Monitored

Well above normal temperatures are forecast to shift from the northern Plains through the Northeast U.S. over the long holiday weekend. A few strong to severe thunderstorm will be possible as well along with a potential for excessive rainfall. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will continue across West Central Texas into tonight. Periods of heavy rain are possible, with some locations receiving 5+ inches of rain. This may result in flooding, especially of low lying and poor drainage areas.
There is a Moderate risk of flash flooding across the Northwest Hill Country and southern Heartland. With all of the rainfall that has occurred over the past few days, and especially early this morning, and additional chances for heavy rain later today and tonight, the risk of flooding and flash flooding is increased.
We have a 40% to 50% chance of rain during the early afternoon of July Fourth. However, rain chances will decrease as we go into the evening. The fireworks forecast includes below normal temperatures and low rain chances.
A drying trend will take place this weekend, with below normal temperatures persisting through Monday. Warmer temperatures return later next week.
