Cold Front Moving Through the Northeast U.S. Monday; Atmospheric River to Impact the Pacific Northwest Midweek

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through Monday with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is expected to move into the Pacific Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. ⚠️ Heads up, Bay Area and Central Coast! A strong storm system is forecast to approach by mid-week. This map shows the probability of receiving more than one inch of rain over a 72-hour period ending 4 AM next Thursday. The greatest probability (up to 55%) is focused on the North Bay and Santa Cruz Mountains. The greatest impacts are expected on Wednesday for the entire region. Be prepared for potential travel disruptions and stay tuned to the forecast as the event nears!
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for all Pacific Coast beaches from 7AM Saturday through 3AM Tuesday due to an increased risk of sneaker waves and rip currents. Remain out of the water, stay off of waterside infrastructure, and never turn your back on the ocean!
Strong southerly winds are anticipated to impact parts of the area by mid-week. There remains some variability, so check back for updates to the forecast. The expectations are that the strongest southerly wind gusts (> 40 mph) are most probable across higher terrain and coastal areas). Enhanced winds are also probable through gaps, passes and channels. Some potential impacts include: difficulty driving for high profile vehicles, downed trees and powerlines, and potential power outages.
There is a 10-20% chance for storms on Wednesday. North Bay and parts of the Central coast are at greatest risk. The main hazards will be isolated lightning, pockets of moderate to heavier rainfall, and erratic/gusty outflow winds.
