Fall is Here…Can Colder Weather Be Far Behind?

Now that we are in the fall season, the days are getting shorter and the nights longer, and cooler weather cannot be far away.  So let’s take a quick look at when we might see our first freezing temperatures of the season.

Across Central Alabama, the first freezing temperatures normally occur during the first half of November.  However, records indicate that the first freeze of the season has occurred as early as October across the area, and as late as January at some sites.  This is summarized in the table below.

Looking ahead,  it appears that some areas in North and Central Alabama could see freezing temperatures this weekend.  The normally colder sheltered areas are most likely to experience freezing temperatures Saturday or Sunday morning.
