Jefferson & Shelby County Flooding
July 18, 2012

Thunderstorms persisted across parts of Shelby and Jefferson Counties during the late morning into the early afternoon hours of July 18th. These thunderstorms were very isolated but produced rainfall amounts of 4 to 6 inches in a few hours time. The flooding was most significant in the Alabaster area with slightly lesser issues near Gardendale and Fultondale.

Numerous roadways were closed for several hours. Several vehicles were stranded in the high water. At least 8 homes received flooding of 4 to 6 feet in basements. The Thompson High School Gym basement was flooded.

Flash Flood Warnings were in effect for parts of Shleby and Jefferson Counties for several hours.
