Planned Power Outage at WFO Boulder February 18, 2025

On February 18, 2025, power will be out to a portion of the David Skaggs Research Center, which houses the NWS Boulder Forecast Office. This outage is planned in order to perform critical maintenance on the power systems for half of the building, including the forecast operations area.  NWS Pueblo will be performing service backup throughout the entirety of the power outage so that all forecast products and information will be seamlessly available across Boulder's area of responsibility. All NWS Boulder webpages and online products will be functioning normally.

Systems at NWS Boulder will be shut down by 5 AM February 18, 2025, and are not expected to be powered back on until the afternoon or evening hours of the 18th. That is when NWS Boulder will resume normal operations and all systems should be back up. During this outage, there will be a few important systems that will be down without backup, and they are:

  • NOAA Weather Radio will be unavailable throughout the day because the system that sends data out to the transmitters will not have power.
  • All of NWS Boulder's phone lines will be inoperable, including the recorded forecast phone line.  The phones cannot be forwarded, you will just get a message that the number you are calling is unavailable.  To speak to a forecaster in Pueblo, you may call (719) 948-9429
  • KFTG Radar will be unavailable throughout the day because the system that sends data to the world will not have power. While the radar will be operating normally, data will not get out to any users.  Radar coverage from nearby radars in Cheyenne WY, Pueblo CO and Goodland KS will remain in service.
