Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains Across Portions of the Central and Eastern US; Heat Expands to Portions of the East

Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy downpours and flash flooding across much of the eastern and central U.S. Dangerous heat will continue in the Pacific Northwest and expand across portions of the East. Expect widespread rain showers and much cooler temperatures through tomorrow. Snow is possible over the highest peaks of the Beartooth mountains late tonight into tomorrow morning. Warming and drying trend Thursday into the weekend.
Showers increase this afternoon and become widespread tonight through Wednesday morning. Precipitation will taper off from northwest to southeast Wednesday afternoon and evening.
