Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall Across the South; Heat Spreads Across the West and Southern Plains

A couple of frontal boundaries will move east and south from the Plains to the Gulf and Atlantic coastlines. These boundaries will focus showers and thunderstorms through the weekend, with scattered severe thunderstorms from the Southern Plains and across the Gulf Coast states. A national test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system and Emergency Alert System (EAS) will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 2:18 pm EDT (11:18 am PDT / 12:18 pm MDT) and 2:20 pm EDT (11:20 am PDT / 12:20 pm MDT). The National Weather Service (NWS) will not convey any test messages across NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) or any other NWS dissemination systems. These tests are being conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). 

 
These tests will assess the readiness to distribute an emergency message nationwide and determine whether improvements are needed.
