Thunderstorms in the North Central U.S.; Dangerous Heat in Texas

There is a severe weather and isolated flooding threat from the Central to Northern Plains tonight into early Thursday. The severe weather threat will progress eastward to the Upper Mississippi Valley/Great Lakes into the Lower Ohio Valley Thursday. A national test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system and Emergency Alert System (EAS) will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 2:18 pm EDT (11:18 am PDT / 12:18 pm MDT) and 2:20 pm EDT (11:20 am PDT / 12:20 pm MDT). The National Weather Service (NWS) will not convey any test messages across NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) or any other NWS dissemination systems. These tests are being conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). 

 
These tests will assess the readiness to distribute an emergency message nationwide and determine whether improvements are needed. Details on how the test messages will reach the public, the exact contents of the test messages, and other test information is posted on FEMA's web page at: http://www.fema.gov/Emergency-Alert-TestIn the event that widespread severe weather or another significant event occurs on September 20, 2018, the tests will be postponed until Wednesday, October 3, 2018.
