The latest Climate Prediction Center outlooks show above normal temperatures continuing for the Northern Plains for late October into early November. The precipitation outlooks show below normal precipitation for the rest of October. Read More >

Overview

A tornado outbreak occurred in eastern North Dakota Saturday afternoon into the evening on June 27, 2015. The NWS in Grand Forks issued 21 Tornado warnings and 2 Severe thunderstorm warnings during the afternoon and evening. A very unstable airmass combined with strong wind shear to produce at least 19 distinct tornadoes. Most of the tornadoes were concentrated in northeast North Dakota, with reports into extreme southeast North Dakota.             LARGE TORNADO WAS VIEWED BY TRAINED SPOTTERS AND STORM 
            CHASERS AS IT CROSSED HWY 11. THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN 
            AND QUICKLY BECAME ENSHROUDED IN HEAVY RAIN AND HAIL BUT 
            APPEARED TO TRACK FOR A MILE OR TWO AND ENDING BY 903 PM 
            CDT. LARGE TREE BRANCHES AND LIMBS WERE SEEN BREAKING 
            FROM TREES AND SHELTER BELTS ALONG ITS PATH. PEAK WINDS 
            ESTIMATED TO 80 MPH. MAXIMUM WIDTH TO 300 YARDS.
