...NWS Damage Survey for the 07/06/2026 Tornado Event... .Floyd Lake... Rating: EF2 Estimated Peak Wind: 115 mph Path Length /statute/: 6.79 miles Path Width /maximum/: 800 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 2 Start Date: 07/06/2026 Start Time: 07:47 PM CDT Start Location: 2 SSW Westbury / Becker County / MN Start Lat/Lon: 46.8822 / -95.9267 End Date: 07/06/2026 End Time: 07:57 PM CDT End Location: 4 NE Detroit Lakes / Becker County / MN End Lat/Lon: 46.8564 / -95.7908 Survey Summary: 1 injury can be directly attributed to the tornado as a homeowner was injured in their home when their roof was removed by the tornado. The second injury was after the tornado during the cleanup stage and could due to shock or trauma according to the county emergency manager. The tornado appears to have begun about 1 mile northwest of Wheeler Lake, tracking over the lake where it caused roof damage to a few homes and snapped the trunks of a few large oak and poplar trees on the west side of the lake. The tornado continued east where it appears to have widened to around a half mile in width along the western shore of (Big) Floyd Lake. This is where the highest rated survey damage occurred with a few garages anchored and modestly built garages were collapsed. A few other more questionably built garages and outbuildings were swept clean in the Oakland Beach neighborhood along with widespread roofing and tree damage. It was in this same area that a 6 by 12 foot horse trailer was lofted and carried about 1/8sm from its stables. The tornado then continued across the lake onto the eastern shore inflicting more roof and tree damage. The last visible surveyed damage was near the corner of Co HWY 25 and Anchor Rd about 3 miles east of the southern end of (Big) Floyd Lake. This survey remains preliminary and may be subject to change in rating, length, and width pending high resolution satellite imagery in the coming days. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data.
