Overview

The second major winter storm of the month impacted central Illinois on February 17. After the very early morning hours of the day saw temperatures in the 50s, a strong cold front pushed into the region and rapidly dropped temperatures. A band of heavy snow occurred late in the morning through the afternoon, before ending early in the evening. In areas south of I-72, the transition from rain to snow was split by an extended period of freezing rain and sleet in the afternoon. Areas south of I-70 saw mostly rain during the event, with sleet and snow by late afternoon and early evening. Visible satellite image shortly before noon, 2/18/2022
