Why Attend?

National Weather Service (NWS) established SKYWARN to obtain critical weather information. It is a volunteer program that trains volunteers to become severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather. Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers, and other concerned private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches and nursing homes, or who have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a spotter.

Snohomish County DEM – Launching Storm Spotter Program

Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management is launching a county specific Storm Spotter Program to build a trusted network of trained local spotters. These volunteers will provide real-time, ground-level weather reports directly to emergency management and the National Weather Service, enhancing the accuracy of warnings and improving community safety during severe weather events. This SKYWARN Storm Spotter Training will be a requirement of this program.

Certificates

Certificates of completion will be provided to all participants upon request. Students will need to be present from start to finish in order to receive a certificate.
