Heavy Rainfall and Severe Thunderstorm Threats for the Plains and Southeast

A frontal boundary extending from the western High Plains to the Southeast will focus additional showers and thunderstorms this weekend. Some of these storms may become severe, alongside frequent lightning, and isolated instances of flash flooding. Forecast Overview: Focusing in on impacts. Rain Chances: Scattered to numerous showers and storms can be expected each day through the upcoming weekend. Greatest timing: early afternoon to early evening, ending after sunset. Localized flooding, dangerous lightning and locally strong gusty winds will be the main risks. Heat: Heat indices will remain elevated thru the weekend in the 100-107ºF range, but it is expected to refrain from reaching extreme heat conditions. Remember to take necessary precautions if outdoors for an extended period of time. Drink water, take frequent breaks indoors or in the shade!
